Seatt

One seat. That's the app.

Post a plan.
Leave one seat open.

You're already going somewhere on Thursday. Put it up with one chair free, read what people say when they ask for it, and pick someone. That's the date sorted.

A Seatt plan: coffee at Dark Horse Espresso in Toronto, with a Request this seat button.

How it works

  1. 01

    Post it

A real place, a set time, one seat. The venue has to be public, and that's checked on the server before your plan goes up.

  2. 02

    People ask

They write a line about why they want to come. You can ask them a question back. Nobody's photo shows yet.

  3. 03

    You pick one

The seat locks and the plan drops out of the feed. Now you can see each other, and now the chat opens.

Two people have asked for a seat. Each shows the note they wrote, with the photo hidden behind a question mark.
The askTwo people asked. You pick on what they wrote.
The Yours tab, showing two walks at Christie Pits that Sam is hosting, one with two requests.
YoursYour plans, and who's asked so far.
The Open To tab, listing people in Toronto who are open to dinner or coffee on particular days.

Why it's built this way

One seat
One yes. There's no shortlist, and once somebody's in the plan is gone, so nothing is gained by keeping ten conversations going.
No photos
Requests arrive with the picture withheld. It turns out "what are you drinking" tells you more than a grid of faces does.
Chat after
Messaging opens once you've picked. No opener written into the void, and no threads with people you'll never meet.
Public only
Bars, restaurants, cafes, parks, venues. Homes and hotels are refused by the server, not just discouraged in the interface.
Two hours
After a seat locks either of you can step back, with nothing on your record and no explanation owed.
Badge, not gate
A selfie check earns a badge. It's optional, nothing is locked behind it, and the video is deleted straight away. See the biometric policy.

Then close the app

There's no streak, no feed that keeps going, and nothing that rewards opening Seatt more often than you actually have plans. It's done its job when you're sitting across from somebody.
